Truth & Grace: Drawing The Line In The Right Place
1 March 2017

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognise him. 11 He came to his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Key thought: “The world did not recognise Him”

As we begin the journey toward Easter Day, we are following the CBC sermon series with a daily email which we hope you will find encouraging and thought-provoking.

A survey in January by YouGov found the number of people believing in God in 2016 declined by 4% to just 28%.

Jesus came not only to bring Salvation to the world but to show us what Father God is like; so the question that challenges us today is: “Why is it that our town, that bears the name Christchurch largely doesn’t recognise Christ?  Could it be that folk don’t recognise Christ because they do not see Jesus in us? It’s a tough question. We might take some comfort from the fact that many didn’t recognise Christ in the flesh either, but some did. Those who yearned for a life beyond the daily grind to one with eternal purpose, who took Jesus at his word, to them he gave the right (or power) to become Children of God – and to begin the process of becoming like him. If we want to win Christchurch for Christ, we all need to check how much like him we really are.

It’s only as we devote ourselves to becoming Children of God that we stand any chance of becoming more like Jesus and showing Christchurch what he is like; to influence our town and demonstrate the lavish grace we ourselves enjoy.

As we journey through Lent we will rediscover that this is not easy. It’s a big challenge but in Christ, we will succeed!

Today’s challenge: Who can I show the real Jesus to today?
Pray: That more of Jesus’s real character be seen in me today.
